Background

The New Venture Competition (NVC) team of the ASP will host a fireside chat with two (or three) revolutionary entrepreneurs, investors and business people. The chat will be moderated by a member of the NVC team to uncover the inner workings of the innovators behind some of the continent’s highly acclaimed ventures. Through this discussion, newcomers to the African business world will discover significant insights on how to establish themselves, assemble a team and drive significant impact.

Recent advancements have led to the rise of the giants - Interswitch, Andela, and Flutterwave, just to name a few - that are changing the face of global entrepreneurship. African startups have amassed over $100M during seed funding rounds alone! What do all these companies have in common? Majority of the founding members all launched their projects under the age of 40. The swiftness that follows the success of several startups signals a shift in entrepreneurial ventures on the African continent where young people are claiming their place as the face of innovation. The fireside chat will connect the next generation of entrepreneurs with the insights and guidance of current creative thinkers and leaders building their businesses.

Objective of Session

This session will identify, explore and address the various existing barriers facing young African entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs will share their experiences in building their businesses and share their perspectives on the evolving nature and form of entrepreneurship on the continent.
